Javier Echevarria was a Spanish Roman Catholic priest and bishop who served as the second Prelate of the personal prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei from 1994 until his death in 2016. Born in Madrid in 1932, he was ordained a priest in 1955 and later became a close collaborator of Opus Dei founder Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Echevarria was known for his dedication to his faith and his mission of spreading the message of Opus Dei, particularly through his travels and speeches around the world. He was also known for promoting interreligious dialogue and for his work in promoting the canonization of Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Echevarria died in Rome in 2016 at the age of 84.
